UK: Cutting Edge Acquires Air-Edel

By • June 5, 2007

Air-Edel Associates, the company that represents composers including Patrick Doyle and Dario Marianelli, and Air-Edel Recording Studios have been acquired by Cutting Edge. The acqusition of Air-Edel is a major film music business event where two leading film music companies in the UK have merged their activities.

Cutting Edge is a music supervision and music publishing company with offices in London and Los Angeles. It has provided services on projects such as I Could Never Be Your Woman, The Flock and Dog Soldiers. Air-Edel was formed in 1969 by ex-Beatles producer George Martin and Herman Edel, and is the leading UK agency for film composers. Run by Maggie Rodford, the company has worked on a large number of films, representing composers and supervising music on films such as Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire, Atonement, Donnie Brasco, Dear Wendy, V for Vendetta and Pride and Prejudice. Apart from Patrick Doyle and Dario Marianelli, the company also represents composers such as Nigel Clarke/Michael Csányi-Wills (The Thief Lord, The Rocket Post), Christian Henson (Severance), Paul Grabowsky (The Last Orders), Benjamin Wallfisch (Dear Wendy) and Karl Jenkins (River Queen). Cutting Edge’s acquisition of Air-Edel also includes three recording studios located at Rodmarton Street in central London.

“Together with Cutting Edge’s backing, enthusiasm and knowledge of the business I believe that we will be able to offer an unparalleled service to our composers and our clients on a worldwide basis,” commented Maggie Rodford in a press release issued last week.

Phil Hope, managing director of Cutting Edge said: “We are delighted to bring Maggie Rodford, her team at Air-Edel and their roster of fantastic talent into the Cutting Edge group of companies. Their unrivalled position in the provision of music to the worlds of film, television, games and commercials will be a tremendous asset to our business. We are rapidly expanding in both the UK and USA.”

Cutting Edge also recently incorporated Liz Gallacher Music Supervision into their company.
