Petersburg, VA (October 15, 2013) – Alexander Publishing, working with the Bruckner Society of America, has released it’s newest video lecture course, Scoring Stages: Bruckner and Film Orchestration, the first course ever to show the influence of Bruckner’s scoring techniques in film composition.

This hands-on course, with 2.25 hours of instruction over 16 mini-video lectures, teaches 12 specific scoring techniques applicable to both live performance and MIDI mock-ups. The techniques focus heavily on strings, brass, and mixing strings and brass. To aid those who create by ear, selected MIDI files have been included for importing into a sequencing/digital audio program that can be used to setup the examples using orchestral sample libraries.

The eight lecture topics for Bruckner and Film Orchestration are:

1. What You’ll Learn & Do;

2. The Grandfather of Film Music;

3. Instrumentation and Music Production Issues;

4. Stage Setups and Music Production Issues;

5. 1 Part Span of Orchestration: 1 Theme;

6. 2-Part Span of Orchestration: 1 Theme and 1 Background Line;

7. 3-Part Span of Orchestration: 1 Theme and 2 Background Lines;

8. 4-part Span of Orchestration.

Courtesy of the Bruckner Society of America, course learners receive complementary downloads of both full scores in PDF format, and MP3s of the Bruckner symphonies quoted. To this, Alexander Publishing has provided both audio timings for each example and a PDF score booklet including the score excerpts and selected condensed score examples created by Peter Lawrence Alexander, the course instructor.

Alexander, a graduate of Richard Bland College of the College of William and Mary, and Berklee College of Music, is the author of the Professional Orchestration series which has been endorsed by winners of the Academy®, Emmy®, Grammy®, and BAFTA® Awards.
