Alexander Publishing has announced the upcoming November 2008 release of Professional Orchestration 2B: Orchestrating the Melody Within the Woodwinds and Brass Sections. Running over 400 pages with full page/full score examples on an oversized 8.5 x 11 page, Professional Orchestration 2B covers for both woodwinds and brass: unison combinations, combinations in octaves, three octaves, and four or more octaves, melody in thirds and sixths. Many of the examples quoted come from works well known to film composers such as The Planets by Holst; The Rite of Spring and The Firebird by Stravinsky; Tombeau de Couperin, La Valse, and Rhapsodie Espagnole by Ravel; Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens and many others.

FMM readers can pre-order with discount either an advanced copy of Professional Orchestration 2B or a boxed set shipped direct from the printer with all three volumes. The boxed set contains approximately 1800 pages of orchestration instruction.

Supporting all three volumes is Alexander Publishing’s new Professional Mentor: YouTube Video Section featuring videos of a majority of works quoted in the book. Many of the selected videos are conducted by such greats as Claudio Abbado, Arthur Arnold, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Karl Bohm, Mariss Jansons, Herbert von Karajan, Roselín Pabón, Simon Rattle, Esa Pekka Salonen, Ramon Tebar, Arturo Toscanini, and Pablo Varela. “With these YouTube video supplements, Professional Orchestration puts together a complete learning system of Read, See, Hear, and Do,” explained author Peter Alexander.

Professional Orchestration 2B ships approximately November 15. Professional Orchestration Volume 1, 2A and the Professional Orchestration Sketchbooks can now be ordered through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-a-Million, and Borders.
