ManhatPro and Hackley School Announce Summer Camp

The Manhattan Producers Alliance (“ManhatPro”), New York’s premier collective of award winning composers and music producers, has formed a partnership with Westchester’s Hackley School to produce a music technology summer camp based around ManhatPro’s “SoundBites” music/music technology curriculum.

Manhatpro is known for creating innovative trainings and master classes that are attended by music industry professionals. Their first kid-centric initiative, SoundBites was developed to set a new standard in music technology education, one which fosters personal expression and provides tools for working in a collaborative environment. Now entering its third year, the project is on its way to fulfilling that vision with programs under way with Beacon/Harlem Children’s Zone, Bank Street College of Education and the Jacob Burns Media Arts Lab.

The SoundBites camp opens June 8 and will take place at the Hackley School’s Performing Arts Center. The center is on the grounds of Hackley’s hilltop campus in Tarrytown, New York. The fully air conditioned facility includes band/orchestra classrooms, performance spaces, rehearsal rooms, a portable mac lab and a teaching/recording studio designed by ManhatPro.

“At each session of SoundBites, the core activity for each student is the collaborative composition of an original song,” says Joe Carroll, Founder of SoundBites and Manhatpro. “Groups of five to ten kids compose music and lyrics, engineer, produce and perform the tracks …everything. New York session musicians regularly participate in kid-produced overdub sessions. Each group works under the same tight timelines professional composers are used to and from start to finish, every aspect of a full-length song is created, recorded and performed by the campers. They even design their own CD covers.”
