Film Music Magazine • January 25, 2011

Hans ZImmer’s Remote Control Productions has announced the release of “Inception – The App”, described by the company as “a dream machine that transforms the world around you into a dreamworld. It uses augmented sound to induce dreams through the headset of your iPhone or iPod Touch. It will change your perception of reality.” The app is available at the iTunes App Store at no cost.

The company says Inception The App transports the film “Inception” into your real life. New dreams can be unlocked in many ways, for example by walking, being in a quiet room, while traveling or when the sun shines. Users will get realtime musical experiences, featuring new and exclusive music from the Inception soundtrack composed by Hans Zimmer.

This app is the first result of Christopher Nolan, Hans Zimmer and Michael Breidenbr├╝ckers’ collaboration using augmented sound.

Well, this guy comes from a band named the Buggles has one hit named video killed the radio star and then what. People ridicule him as a hack for many years etc etc. Then Inception, if all of you esoteric musicians do not get the depth of this, his best score ever… then go back to your labs and do your homework. The simplicity and power of emotion in this piece of music will not be surpassed for long. It’s obvious Hans has done his homework and must be familiar with great composers. This does not mean he has to flex it for film. Film is a very different beast, writing music for a concert stage is a different world. When we hear composers who create sounds which stand on their own without film we praise them. Composing great music for film is no joke.
Hans Zimmer has finally arrived into a voice which will be heard for a long long time. A voice which most will praise and few will ridicule. His time spent in front of image has paid off. Now someone give him a beer.
