Film Music Magazine • February 24, 2011

The Ravel Orchestral Study Group in Los Angeles will meet on February 25, 2011 from 10:00am – 12:00pm at Vitello’s Restaurant, 4349 Tujunga Ave in Studio City, CA.

The group will hold an open study session followed by lunch. The study, open to anyone, is headed by veteran film and television composer Ron Jones.

The group will be studying Maurice Ravel’s masterwork Daphnis and Chloe Suite Two. This will be an in-depth examination of Ravel’s art and the technique of his orchestrations and music, with special instrumental guest demonstrating all things vital on violin, Mr. Charles Bisharat. Charlie is one of the top violinists and concert masters in Los Angeles. In addition to his vast expertise and professional experience with orchestral music, he is a world renowned jazz violinist.

After Daphnis and Chloe, the group will dive into the great 20th century master work The Rite Of Spring by Stravinsky.

Ron Jones brings his professional knowledge and experience to create and present an innovative look into this work. No homework is required, but there are detailed notes and a course of study that one can download and work on at home. It is intended for professional composers and orchestrators, but will be accessible to students, musicians and those interested in learning more about Ravel and this work. This is part of a continuing series.

To get on the e-mail list for course info, please e-mail Ron Jones at ron@ronjonesproductions.com. The notes for the study are available to anyone, so those who are not in Los Angeles can join in the study. Follow this link to download the notes: www.ronjonesproductions.com/ravel
